I bought a house back in July and it was filled with German Roaches.
Did what was needed to rid the place of them. there is one room that I think where it must have been infested with them. It has a really awful smell and after talking with a few people they said nothing could be done other than to rip out the and put up new ones. So my question is what is the best way to remove old Drywall and also the breaker box in that room is a mess is it just a matter of buying a new one and poping it in?
Ripping out the drywall is just a matter of smashing a hole through it and then grabbing a hold of it a giving a yank. Before you do that, use a utility razor knife to slice along the top where the wall meets the ceiling, and where the drywall to be removed meets drywall (and other things) that are not being removed. ...»
For the breaker box, do you mean a main circuit breaker box? I suggest having a professional electrician deal with that.
I will look into having an electrician replacing the box once I have the walls out.
Would repainting be a better way to go or is that not going to help? Want to make sure that I don't go and repaint the room and then have to take out the drywall anyways. I have even tried airing out the room. That didn't help at all with the odor from the german roach infestation. ...»
Just not sure how I should proceed with getting rid of the smell.
While it may be the paint holding the smell, I would suspect a different (more disgusting) root cause - the walls have dead roaches and roach feces inside them. Either way, repainting the room might help with the smell, but I don't expect it would. You may have to open up the walls anyway and get rid of all the nastiness in there. ...»
You might be able to call an exterminator service and see if they have any more special knowledge suggestions.
You may get by with removing the lower one to two feet of dry wall to clean out any old debris.Be sure to check for dry rot while wall is exposed, always wear an appropriate mask. Next prime all the walls, ceilings, and if necessary the exposed wood with a sealer that will seal up odors. It is called Zinsser's "B-I-N Primer", which is a white-pigmented shellac. You can clean up with regular ...»
