Sometimes a realistic looking owl will keep them away - move it every day. Cats work too! ;-)

The fake owl will work. We took ours down years ago because the birds didn't like it and we prefer birds.

Would you consider screening in your porch?

I've thought about it, but it's not my property so I don't have the permission.

I've never tried this, but a friend of mine bought the hottest peppers she could find, made a paste with them, then "painted" the areas the birds used to perch. They found new places to perch.

Rubber snakes? Owls? Hanging strips of bread wrappers?

I read somewhere that if you paint the ceiling of your porch a really light blue, the flying critters avoid it...makes it look like sky instead of a sheltered retreat. Has anyone else heard of this?

I had trouble with them under our carport. Cut small pieces of silver Christmas garland and taped it the corners of the carport. No more birds, they fly through and keep going. Can hardly be seen from street.

Birds don't have taste buds and the hottest pepper will be eaten by them. Silver garland could kill them. Anything that moves can distract them. Red flowers will attract them in or out. other flower can also draw them. Reflections will also draw them in, so if you have a glass door cover it.

I have been putting up with bird crap all over my front porch and back yard patio, my neighbors across the street have dozens of bird apartments. I also have squirrels that come on my porch and dig in my pots on the banister. I use double sided tape and put this along banister with TACKS pointy side up, no more birds or squirrels digging in plants on banisters :)
