During the growing season for tomatoes or any vegetables, proper spraying with a horticultral oil is necessary to eliminate insects. The holes in your tomatoes could very well be numerous insect infestation.

Tomatoes like full sun, don't over water, fertilize with something good for tomatoes. I use Epsom Salt at least every couple of weeks, I put a couple tablespoons in a gallon of water & give them a good soak. Flowers love Epsom Salt as well as grass. I use Bug-b-gone, from Lowe's or Home Depot. It is granules, that I sprinkle every where around the outside of my house, flower beds & tomatoes.

Thank you, Laura. It's the truth. Three seasons in Phx: hot, hotter and hottest with monsoons. Loved the people. Miss the people. Still communicate (after 30 years) with some of the people. BUT, I'll take the 4 seasons in TN where I CAN grow tomatoes (lol). Just boils down to personal preference I suppose.

Get a plastic bucket and cut a 10cm hole in the bottom. Fill the bucket with soil etc and hang the bucket up upside down. Plant the tomato plant up into the hole and allow to hang down. Water well. Hang up high enough to allow the tomato plant to grow down and not have tomatoes touch anything. Is an amazing way to solve your problem.

Save your eggshells, when planting tomatoes put a good amount in the hole where the plant will go. Also sprinkle shells around the plant, they will release calcium. Water the plants deep every other day , don't let the water tough the stem ,make a well around the plant .

    Good luck!

Likely humming birds think tomatoes are sweet flowers. Just snip out their little holes they made & use tomatoes. We had this problem as well. Good luck, mjl
