How can I update these glass tiles cheaply?!

Hi ! We moved into a big beautiful home a little over a year ago. Don't have much money but could anyone make a suggestion for redoing a bathroom CHEAP that has 1950's salmon colored bath tile? the tiles look like they are some type of glass and maybe a ¼" thick. I would like to do something over them and have it look classy. I have attached a picture of the tile. I need an update for a very outdated look.

Might to consider to replace with dry wall, prime and paint. Not sure if its just that one wall. Other options maybe paint with tile paint, lots of options with washable wall paper, then you can seal the paper.

Just embrace them until you can redo the entire bathroom. The tiles are not that bad and those colors are actually popular right now! Find a great shower curtain, paint the walls, and add accessories to make it look amazing!

I would love those tiles - I agree with Cindy. I think they are just glass back painted. I think your real problem is the incongruity of the tiles with the vanity - the mix of styles. Could you minimize the goo gaa on the vanity and simplify the area?

The tiles are great! I would paint the vanity and incorporate the tile colours with white.

i agree with Cindy. Embrace the tiles!

You have a few options here.Remove the tiles and paint. You would have to remove them carefully. You can reuse them!Wallpaper is another option.Wood stained and sealed another option. You could also paint the tiles as well. You would have to rough out the surface a bit with 220 grit sandpaper!

OMG!!! These tiles are fantastic! I completely agree with others that say embrace them, and focus on the vanity! IMHO the palette that was displayed is beautiful, but it brings in too much color. I think painting the vanity in a high glass white, that matches the countertop help the colors not compete. If you must change something with the tile, please consider leaving all of it and stenciling a simple white border over the blue that will help tie the vanity and coral tone to the rest of the bath. Good luck!

OH! Move the towel bar to a less conspicuous location. Also, if you can change out the doors (flip them to the wrong side?) of the vanity so that you have a nice flat art deco clean lines, your bath will be amazing!

the tiles are just fine, unless something is broken go to the paint store and pick out colors that you like" your favorites" at least 10 colors strips that go from light to dark. even if you feel they would not work . The tile color you have would go with many colors and stop! looking at Better homes and Gardens!

if you need light in that room or it is a small room keep it light. We have a very small bath and I used the color of my tub off white paint with a hint of beige my lighting turned it to very soft yellow. it is a must to check colors strips with your lighting you have. You can loosen light fixtures and spray paint them white or a antique bronze. two colors on lighting fixtures are just fine.... don't like your doors and trim ? paint them semi gloss with a foam roller( black or white). stay with your favorite colors. light colors. Leave your counter top alone for now. go with 2 shades darker paint on your vanity use the same color sheet, use a foam roller. white ceiling. If all else fails. You could glue up white bead board and trim over your tile but I would first try to like your tile. you could chip off your blue tile if it is all at the top. smooth it out and paint. stay away form pink. this was suggest to me a few years ago worked for us.

You could use gold or silver paint if you like on light fixtures or mirror frames just tape around them and shut off the light first, tape up a paper guard . There is also a process of re-glazing your tiles but it is not cheap.

Personally I see the vanity as more of an issue than the tile. I would suggest painting it or replacing it and the sink/countertop. Lowes and other home stores have vanity/sink combinations available for way less than replacing the tile would cost. Buy some fabulous towels and enjoy what you have u til you can renovate the bathroom

Thank you so much...That is a good idea and one I have thought of...the vanity is really weird to be honest and a face lift there would do something for the room...plus some greenery and personal touches. Thank you for your ideas.

Could you use Krylon Mirror Spray on them? Do you like mercury glass?

If only that thick I would remove them and repair drywall then paint. It will only cost you the price of drywall and paint. I mean there are additional cost with drywall but worth it. I have never seen anything like these tiles. If you have limited budget then leave alone don't even waste money on paint just save until you can gut it since the cabinet looks outdated as well. A bathroom can cost any where from 5000. and up so don't put a bandaid over a massive cut this needs stitches. Sorry but it may just have to wait and then it gives you time to figure out what you want and check for sales you may have to purchase things a little at a time then gut it yourself and only hire out putting dry wall up if what you want is something you can do. But wait.😕

I am a MCM freak and adore the tile Those are pricey and are back in style. Maybe you could replace the cabinet with a floating style, it would cost as much as the tile renovation. maybe less.

what is MCM if I may ask.
