I prefer the lemon and water method. the whole house smells wonderful to boot. I also keep one of the lemon wedges and put a little water in a bowl with it in the microwave. turn on for 1 1/2 minutes. clean microwave and pot and nice fragrant kitchen.

Spray it with oven cleaner. Let it soak in a garbage bag overnight. Then scrub in the morning. If it has plastic handles don't get the obese cleaner on those.

I had a friend who burned peas in the bottom of a Farberware pot, she tried everything and was ready to throw the pot out. I took it, filled it with water, put it on the stove till the water got warm (not hot) dump the water and put baking soda over the burnt part. let it sit a few hours and then take your scrubber and go to town. Depending on how bad it is, it may take more than one treatment, but it does work, and baking sode is a lot cheaper than an new Farberware pot.

I've put water in the pan or pot then before it begins to boil I carefully add1Tbsp of baking soda. Depending on how badly burned I would help clean it while hot , with the spatula. Sometimes it need repeating. Comes out lovely!
