DIY Painted Dresser Tutorial

This is my Land of Nod Dresser Knock-Off tutorial. The original dresser was $1299 and I created this dresser for just $288 and three tools. It has a slightly mid century modern look with a bit of a farmhouse flair.
This was my inspiration, the "Radiant Dresser" from land of Nod, but the $1299 price tag was too much for me!
Instead I started off with a Target Dresser. Then I took all six drawers and put them together. I found the middle of all six dressers and created this middle "diamond" out of painters tape. Then, using the thickness of the tape as the size of the stripes, I laid out a diamond pattern. I continued out the pattern to the edges of the drawers.
I used an exacto knife to create clean corners where the tape came together. Here is the entire designed laid out in a radiant diamond pattern. The six drawers are pushed together, and held in place by the tape.
I used latex interior paint in a soft white. I happened to already own the paint, but you could use any color! Here is what it looks like after one coat of paint.
Here is what my piece looked like after one, and then two coats of paint.
I let everything dry for 24 hours. Then I peeled off the painters tape, and this was the final design. I added two clear coats of a finish to help project it.
Here is the finished product! The gold hardware (which is similar to the original dresser) came with the dresser. I am using it right now as a bar area.
Mine has a slightly rustic, imperfect finish, which I really like. But with another coat you could create perfectly opaque, crisp lines.
I chose a midcentury modern, sleeker piece, but this could work on any style of dresser.
I decorated with pretty, empty bourbon bottles in a tray, and left room for bar supplies. A Roman Numeral print is leaned up behind it.

So, you glued the thin, painted sheets on the fronts of the drawers? I couldn't find the explanation of how they got from flat on the floor to the piece itself.
