DIY Barn Wood Christmas Trees

Another barn wood project! Ya know I love those!
I thought it would be great to make a simple, rustic, barn wood Christmas tree for our home this year. We still have our traditional tree, but a little barn wood tree would be a nice little addition to our Christmas decorating.
This was another pretty simple project to do and one that could easily be replicated with any wood you had lying around (as you will see at the end of this post). We had a piece of barn wood in the garage and a 1×2 board left over from another project. The 1×2 will become the trunk of the tree and the barn wood will be the branches of the tree.
We needed to cut the piece of barn wood in half and trim the edges so the “branches” of the tree were not so wide.
For the measurements of the branches, Hubby cut the top piece at 1.5″ wide and then added 1.5″ to each “branch” going down the tree.
I stained the “trunk” of the tree with Minwax “Mission Oak” stain.
When it was dry, Hubby screwed the branches onto the trunk – 2″ apart from one another.
When he brought it in and we were getting ready to hang it on the wall, we found out that we were out of picture hanging supplies. What else could we use to hang this tree? A memory came to me of my mom hanging things in our house with pop can tops. When I said this, Hubby thought I was crazy, but gave it a try anyway. After he put the pop can top on and saw that it really worked, he became a quick believer. He even said, “We don’t have to buy picture hanging supplies anymore!”
My mom didn’t do this, but Hubby used a washer with the screw and pop can top.
It hung perfectly on the wall! And……………. it hasn’t fallen down since we put it up! Thanks Mom for another great idea!
Hubby made a bigger tree for our yard with random wood we had in the garage. I painted each “branch” a different color and aged them with brown paint. We added a tin star to the top of this one.
I love the simplicity of these trees. We have added some Christmas lights to the one outside. I think these trees would be perfect for an apartment or any other small space because they don’t take up any floor space. You could decorate them with ornaments, tinsel and lights too!
