Previous posters have given you wonderful links. If it were mine, I would put bun style or square furniture legs under it to give it a little hight, cut off the wood forming the box on the right to open it up to an L shape. Refinish the wood or paint it. Put a nice cushion (may have to upholster your own to get the size right) on the right for bench. Put hooks for hanging jackets on the left. Baskets in all the openings to hold shoes or "to go" items like back-packs and school papers. Depending on whether or not you like the door, you could leave it for some hidden storage of purses or work boots or take the door off and make space for another basket. It looks as if you have a couple of shelves. You could also put the shelves up toward the top of the left side for a mail in/out box and more "stuff to go" space. Be sure to mount a key rack on it somewhere, and you have a place in the entry where you can put on shoes and collect materials so there is no last-minute search for "that paper I have to take back to school today" or car keys. We try to leave the shoes at the door. If you have that practice in your home, the baskets can be pressed into use for shoes, or if the added legs or feet are tall enough to give you under the bottom space, you could slide a tray under the bottom directly on the floor for shoes. I don't know what the dimensions are on the original, but you will want the legs tall enough to put the seat at a reasonable height for use. Because it is tall, I'd make the legs pretty chunky, but that will depend on your taste. Google "Sofa legs" or "bun feet" to find examples. Ideally, each household member would have designated space in a tray or basket so there is also no "where is my other shoe" panic in the morning either. Have fun!!
If you have a back porch, and you have drills, etc can be used to put them in, or those large planters. Fertilizer, Kitty Litter, or if you are a person that sews, you can use it for sewing machine, materiel, craft, or book shelf.
Clean and refinish with a water proof primer,, paint, and seal and bring life into your home with aquariums or terrariums. Some cutting may need to be done to accomodate cords, etc. If the piece is ade of weak materials you may have to strengthen in statgic areas. Possibly even make a mini grow house by screwing small grow light fixtures at the top of each "box" and using heat mats to encourage growth.
