If you are talking about a Koi pond, the cost to put in a 5000 gallon pond would range from $5000.00 to $7500.00 depending on what you want it to look like. The fancier you make it, the more it will cost. The cost of maintenace will depend on what kind of fish you have. The fish themselves can be expensive and you have to keep an eye on the water quality.

Once the installation is completed, not much. The key is to cover the surface with water plants. The plants keep the water cooler and shade the water so that algae doesn't grow. We found this out the hard way after many days of draining the pond and scrubbing the liner. Fish will nibble on the plant roots, so it isn't necessary to feed them. Duck weed is like a salad bar for koi. They can eat it completely, so I would get water hyacinths or lilies, etc. instead. Consult with people ...»
who sell pond equipment, plants, fish, etc. They are the experts and a great resource, especially if you are doing the work yourself.
