How can I paint over waxed chalk paint?

I have a 3 piece dinning room table that I painted with chalk paint and then waxed. I want to change the color. Do I paint over it with a different chalk paint color. Or do I need to sand it?

You will have to remove the wax or the paint will not adhere.

You can use chalk paint directly over it, but you may want to give it a quick sand first for best results regardless. Good luck, what an exciting project!!!

I've have repainted over some small waxed chalk paint projects in the past and I simply repainted over what was there and rewaxed when I was done. Hope this helps!

I have done the same as Elizabeth Dion. I just repainted and rewaxed over what I had previously painted and waxed.

Thanks for your quick response. I will give it a try, without sanding. Only because its in dinning and living room combined. To heavy for me to take to the garage.

You may have successful results by washing down with TSP, rince, and dry well then paint

TSP is very powerful--follow directions. Rince. I love this product for tough jobs.

Use Mineral oil to wash off the wax... give a light sanding and repaint.

You only have to do a very light sanding...just enough to bring up the teeth of the wood.
