I take an old bowling ball and paint it white with a matte finish craft paint. You can either plug up the holes, or sometimes I glue a piece of oaktag over each of the openings. Then I use Weldbond white glue to glue on the glass gems. The gems are heavy and you can only work a small area at a time. They tend to slide down (gravity).Once all gems are glued on and dried (at least 24 hours) I use grout that has epoxy in it. I get the grout at Home Depot. You have to work quickly with this type of grout, as it sets up quickly. If you use regular grout, I recommend that you use sealer once the grout has dried. I am self taught, so others may have better ways of doing this craft. I wouldn't recommend leaving the ball outside if you are in an area with freezing temps during the winter.
