What kind of paint? If it's from house interior, I would organize it by room. The beige in my kitchen is different than that in my living room, but not obvious if you look in the can

I write what room the paint is for on the lid.

I also put a dab of the paint on the lid rather than rely on the label.

If you only have small amount of paint in the cans, buy small clear seal tight containers and decant into these, add a label stating colour , room and brand. Then keep all together in a shallow box or on a tray. You could use small amounts that are not wanted anymore for art projects if they are acrylics.

screw tops would be best for storing paint - AND you can add a small piece of plastic wrap to ensure you have no leaks. If it's just a tiny bit, but you need to know the color for any touch ups... you could also TAKE A PHOTO of the name / brand and if it's special mix - they usually have a BAR CODE and mixing instructions on the can lid - then TOSS the rest (into the correct recycling bin!)

I just take my brush and paint a strip on the top of the can and on a side. i'm a bit leery of using older paint for touch up...what's on the wall may end up darker that what is in the can.
