With that empty everything out & get rid of everything expired, organize based on your style of cooking / what makes sense to you on the counters before placing back

Group like items together: Vegatables, fruit, beans, soups, etc. Turn all labels to the front. If you have a lot of space between shelves, either add more shelves, or if that is not possible buy free-standing shelves. Put the items you use the most in the most convenient area--things you use the least in the hardest to reach spaces. Corral small items like jello boxes, packets, etc. into plastic baskets with handles on the front. This makes it easy to put lightweigt items above your head because the handles make the basket easy to grab off of a higher shelf. Put bagged items like rice and dried beans into plastic or glass containers. If you buy boxed items like snack bars or packs of crackers, corral these into wider baskets to keep them from falling over. Basic rule, group like things together and corral smaller items into baskets--cheap plaxtic ones from the dollar store or Walmart work just fine.

Its all about the labels, the more labels the better. And, they're a fun way to add your personal touch http://www.hometalk.com/diy/organize/kitchen/organizing-a-small-pantry-12935583?expand_all_questions=1

Call me OCD, but I label the cans, boxes, etc. with either the purchase date or the expiration date. I use the ones that are set to expire first.

Vicky has a great idea especially for dressings. I place things by country so my Spanish food goes together and on same shelf I have room for soup. Second shelf is Italy, I also have dressings and ketchup. Cereals and breakfast food has its own shelf since there is oatmeal and pancake mixes and syrups place preserves and peanut butter. Bottom self holds extra paper towels, napkins and juice. Sometimes I feel as though I need to take photos of items or at least write name of country because the men in my house are clueless and that's how you buy the same thing that you have. Once I set it up its a snap to pull out shelf and see what's needed. If it's a walk in pantry I'm jealous. But this would really be helpful. Oh yes they eat chips also goes on bottom shelf and if left on counter without a clip I throw them away. I don't eat them so it doesn't hurt me. Then my husband can deal with our guys.
