Throw a few decorative pillows on the bed that say, Welcome or sweet dreams or something like that. On the dresser, put a hand towel and face cloth for them. Have you got a mirror in the room? Guests like to make sure they look presentable before they join you. What is on the floor? Hardwood is nice, but cold. Put a small mat on each side of the bed. Good luck!

i read some where that Crisp White sheets are welcoming, could have been Martha S. Crisp sheets would be percale, which is good as they aren't too expensive, they feel cool when you get into bed! Love that. I put a clock/radio with alarm, a full length mirror. Bought cheap toothbrushes at the dollar store. Have fun doing your guest room.

It would be helpful to have pics, why don't you put some Up? I have always found the color taupe on the walls to be very cozy, and it really blends with most other colors, even purple! Some big extra fluffy pillows on the bed, a basket with a hand towel, washcloth, bath towel, toothbrush, toothpaste travel size, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shave cream, razors, etc. all travel size. This way they feel they have all those things to themselves in case the forgot something, like deodorant or soap and don't have to use yours or share. Also, bottled water in the basket with some snacks, like, nuts or crackers and something sweet like hard candy as well, in case they are hungry after you are asleep. Thick fluffy throw rugs on each side of the bed. If funds allow, a lush terry cloth bathrobe, white and sparkling fresh and clean hanging on the door. Alarm clock, mirror, note pad with pen, maybe some good books you have already read and would recommend, a deck of cards, maybe a magazine, if you know what they like. I used to have a ton of Martha Stewart mags and everyone loved being able to check them out. Maybe stencil a sign in the room that says "relax". P,ease post some before and after pics, would really like to see what you do!

If you want to change the room with color I would suggest painting the room soft pastel blue, pastel green or a very soft yellow. Be sure to add lots of texture with your drapes, rugs and accent pillows. Even a small bouquet of fresh flowers says Welcome. Have a basket with snacks and water on the bedside table. Be sure there is a reading lamp and a clock. Layer an extra blanket for warmth over the bed. Provide the information for your internet connection in a frame on the nightstand. A small basket with toiletries shows you are thinking of your guests. Would love to see your after pics!

Turquoise & cream w shades of brown are very soothing and unisex too. I always slip a mint under the pillows, leave a stack of clean towels and an interesting book on the bed, fresh flowers mingled w/ the silks, a decanter of fresh filtered water with glass glasses on the dresser, pen, note pad, bookmarker, alarm clock and hard candies or throat lozenges & tissues (season appropriate) and a small dish for coins or jewelry on the end tables. I keep the top drawers of dresser empty for guest and space in closet for hanging clothes. An iron is a nice touch. Soft rugs on the tile floors and a basket of toiletries finish the home away from home feeling. I'm definitely copying Melissa Leach's idea about the internet logon info; what a great idea!
