Fix Peeling Wallpaper

Peeling wallpaper is like a small crack in a car windshield. The damaged area may not get any bigger, but that isn’t likely! If you don’t fix the peeling section right away, the problem will probably get much worse, and you’ll be headed towards an expensive wall makeover. Prevent this from happening! If you start to notice peeling edges, take action with these steps:
1. Inspect your wallpaper. Give your wallpaper a thorough onceover and make note of the areas where the paper is peeling. Pay special attention to the paper’s vertical edge (where one piece ends and another starts). Another common peeling danger zone is the space where wallpaper meets the ceiling or floor, or where wallpaper meets chair-height crown molding.
2. Lightly dampen the peeling paper. Once you’ve inspected your wallpaper, take a clean, slightly damp paper towel and pat the peeling area to soften the material. Be very careful with this – getting the paper too wet will ruin it, but working with dry paper will make the wallpaper will rips or tear.
3. Carefully apply adhesive. Dab a small amount of wallpaper seam adhesive on an old paintbrush. Carefully pull back the peeling wallpaper to repair it. Spread an even coating of the adhesive onto the underside of the exposed seam (instead of the wall). Tip: If the area is small, use a toothpick.
4. Press the wallpaper. Using a seam roller, flatten the seam where you have just added the adhesive by gently rolling back and forth. If you don’t have a seam roller, use a clean cloth and press firmly along the edges.
5. Remove remaining adhesive. If any adhesive has seeped out from underneath the repaired area, carefully remove it with a dampened paper towel. Pat away any excess adhesive until the area is clean. Then, let it dry. You’re done!
