5 Additions to Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are essential to the look of the room, which is why they are often the first item tackled in a new home. Kitchens are used constantly and seen by family and guests more than many other spaces. Kitchen cabinets can add character to the room on their own, but you can also add extra pieces for added design and utility!
1. Under Cabinet Lighting
Adding under cabinet lighting is both an aesthetic choice and a functional one. Think about the kind of work you do in the kitchen, and whether the extra lighting will be helpful. There will be times when overhead lighting is unnecessary, but extra light on the counter could be helpful. On the other hand, extra under cabinet lighting, especially with rich dark wood, adds an attractive luminescence. For pocket lights that are easy to install on your own, the cost is minimal. But if you're not sure and want to test out the look, consider using plain holiday lights and string them under the cabinets (but be extra careful about any exposed wires!).
2. Wine Organizers and Racks
If your cabinets are full or your countertops crowded, having a specific spot to store wine bottles is both a storage perk and ensures the bottle doesn't get dropped or broken. For a smaller set up, wine bottle organizers of small wire racks can be installed below the cabinets. If you're thinking big (and intricate!) you can install a squared wine rack with lattice structure to store all your wine bottles.
3. Stemware Racks
Long stem glasses stored together in a cabinet can get crammed, fall down, or become forgotten in a high shelf. Adding a stemware rack below a cabinet so that the glasses can hang down allows for unique and accessible styling. Installing these racks under the cabinets lets glasses hang at an accessible height without getting in the way of the rest of the counter.
4. Openers and Knife Blocks
Sometimes you just don't have the time to fight with a stuck jar lid. Installing a jar opener underneath on of your cabinet is a time saver and beneficial addition. On the other hand, having a knife block to store knives that is a part of your cabinets will help save space. Instead of the traditional knife block that sits on the counter, consider a knife block that is installed underneath a cabinet.
5. Kitchen Audio Set
Instead of having to carry around equipment or installing a fancy audio system in your home, adding a little extra wiring for your kitchen to add an audio element. Whether you just want to add some audio cables to hook up a stereo or an iPod dock for your phone to charge and play music while you work, it's a simple addition that adds a lot to the kitchen.
