I love this idea, turn an old lamp ( you can easily pick up from a furniture thrift shop) into a beautiful bird cage: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/garden/turning-a-floor-lamp-into-a-birdcage-stand-3658993?expand_all_questions=1
Turning a Floor Lamp Into a Birdcage Stand
I think the suggestion that Hillela provided is STUNNING! But before you invest you time and money, my girlfriend's vet specifically told me to have a square or rectangle shaped cage, should I want to change from what she has. I took the canary after she passed as the bird knew me plus I wanted her. When birds get frightened, they retreat to a corner. If the cage is round it stresses them out and have a shorter life span. I have also read it can make them crazy. Luckily we learned this many years ago when my brother bought love birds for his girlfriend. Do some research and talk with your vet.
Thank you so much for your care and concern, and for taking your time to write! I will speak with my vet :-)
