Help!I have the ugliest mauve cabinets in my kitchen. Can i paint them and if so which paint should i use?

Great to know- this rental home has formica on the bathroom walls!!! UGLY!!!
We repainted old mauve colored cabinets. We used a heat gun & took off most of the paint, take care, if the house is at all old, there may be lead based paint.
