Floating Shelves

Walking the aisles of Lowe's for inspiration to get ideas for floating shelves that were within my budget~cheap LOL
Went down the hardware aisle and saw this aluminum angle on clearance for $2.40 each (reg $8.69) and a light went on. This is usually for the front of the shelves as trim and so I wondered "why not use them for the brackets?" I decided since I can attach one side of the shelves to the cabinet for extra support, then the aluminum should hold the shelves with no problems. Huge savings since floating shelves are expensive and the metal brackets are over $21 a piece not including the shelves. Since I was painting the shelves to match the cabinets I used the inexpensive pressed board for under $6 for a 1x12x8 and had Lowe's cut it down to 9 1/2" and I got 2 shelves out of each board. I trimmed out the shelves with left over trim pieces to give the edges a finished look.
What do you think?
3 floating shelves for around $21 with left over wood and brackets for smaller projects (which saved me over $60+ for store bought shelves).
finished shelves~with some finishing touches yet to do
cut the 45 degrees to frame the edges of the shelves
added scrap trim
added scrap trim
before the trimmed edges
aluminum angle~drilled holes and then used a larger drill bit to countersink the screw heads (had to be careful since the aluminum was thin)
small screws for the sheves to the brackets
