I agree that there are many places to find home decor advice on the web. I would be sure to consider the size of any end tables/coffee table that will take up space in the room. Additional seating can added if the sofa isn't adequate, but little can be done if a couch is too large! I would look at several sample rooms for the best outcome. Consider windows and doors as well as traffic areas. Have fun!

Are you just replacing sofa or eventually the entire space? You want to make sure of where vents are so you don't cover them. You must know size of room and where focal point is because it's what draws eye. If fireplace than sofa should face it, if it's a window than face that way and if TV same thing. Try to only have one focal point. Size of room and where vents are as well as light switches are really important and ability to get through room as well. Furniture should not be against the walls. When you check websites that's fine but they must work with your vents and electrical outlets. So there can only be basic ideas on sites then you have to tweak it for you.

VERY SIMPLE - measure, measure, measure! Measure the room, measure the furniture, leave room for traffic patterns and getting into and out of the "conversation area" IMAGINE sitting in the space, will your knees hit another person if the seating is too close?

You do not have to buy every piece that is shown on the showroom floor. ONLY ORDER WHAT FITS AND MAKES SENSE. If it is too big or too much, don't buy it!

Tape out the area with blue tape on the floor. remember, keep in mind, the taped out area is only the footprint of the furniture. Take into consideration the height too.

Check websites such as houzz.com and pinterest for inspiration (only). When viewing pictures, go for the overall look and keep in mind the size of your room as compared to the picture.

Wishing you a brightly colored day,
