Creativity in a Backsplash~ All for $10

A few months ago while perusing the aisles (especially the clearance areas) of Lowe's , I ran across 4 boxes of special order engineered wood flooring for $1 a box! regularly $40 each! And so I bought it thinking I would use it at my front door where the original wood floors were damaged.
Then a month ago I was looking for tile for the backsplash and came across this beautiful glass tile marked 16cents! regularly $2.86. So I snatched up all 60 tiles and decided I would use it for my kitchen and work it in with other materials. To tie in my kitchen and all the materials, I racked my brain for what to use and had my sites set on wood to tie in the ugly counter top with my beautiful granite which is on my island and my cooktoop area. One day I will replace the ugly countertop but for now my husband begged me to just to finish the kitchen and wait on the countertop (and no painting the countertop).
The paint color for my cabinets was another find on another day~$5 mistint Valspar primer and paint which matches beautifully with the granite which has blue flecks in it and in certain light looks grayish instead of green. My cabinets were purchased from a cabinet wholesaler/retailer and did not match but were high end cabinets I purchased for less than $1200 and saved thousands.
The handles were being tossed out by the neighbor because they were in bad shape but a $7 can of hammered Rustoleum did the trick to revamp. The neighbor only had 30 handles and I need 5 more and soon I will unveil how I worked 5 random handles/knobs into the design.

I just had to post my backsplash which looks stunning with my $1200 Kenmore Elite range hood which I found in the back of the store in returned box marked down to $300 about 4 years ago.
The granite countertop was the best deal of all:
About 4 years ago a granite dealer in our area went out of business and I purchased 2 slabs about 5x5 each for $50 each and had them fabricated for $450 and saved over $3000 on this hard to find granite.
I hope this post gives others ideas on how to work on a budget~it takes patience, focus, and commitment to find deals and most times it takes time to put it all together. I gutted our kitchen 5 1/2 years ago and now I have finally reached about 90% done. I love doing things that express my creativity and I am blessed with this incredible ability to walk into deals.
