Looking for suggestions for a broken glass on my kitchen cabinet...

I just bought a house and have a broken glass door kitchen cabinet. Thinking about frosting them instead of trying to replace that pane. Any suggestions?

Replacing the glass is both simple and inexpensive. Any home improvement store that cuts glass can walk you through the process.

A friend of mine cut a shower curtain with a geometric designs to fit her kitchen cabinet glass doors (she didn't want the contents of the cabinets to show) and glued the shower curtain pieces with her kids glue (one that dries clear and can be washed of, like Elmer's) to the glass panes (along the sides). It actually looked very elegant.

Another friend used scenery pictures from various calendars on those glass cabinets that got the most messy. She had one cabinet that was France another Italy, Spain, etc., it was interesting to look at.

Change it. You can do it. No one wants/needs a broken glass hazard in a well utilized room. It can drop out and hurt someone.

Replace it - take it out and measure it - go to a glass store and get a new piece cut. It will be worth it.

The chicken wire is a cute idea. I like that. Of course replacing it is probably the safest idea. But if you just want to keep it until it falls out or gets knocked out you could mosaic it with a good glass glue and a bright colorful mosaic pattern. I'm partial to the vintage dishes used to mosaic. Even using mosaic you will probably need to back the inside with at least a thin wood back. Then you could spray it with blackboard paint and keep a string of chalk and keep a grocery list on the inside. Good luck with whatever you decide. GayL

Gorilla glue has a good heavy duty clear packaging tape that you use to put the glass in and you would never see it. The best bet would be replace the glass.

I have used that clear Gorilla glue tape and I love it. It is way better Than any other tape product that I have used. if you take the glass out and want to make sure that it is all out fold a piece of this tape in half and run it around in the area where the glass was and this tape should pick up any left over pieces or, you can vacuum it. By the look of it in the picture it looks like this is a large door and I can't tell f this is a pantry door or just a really large cabinet? If you haven't already fixed it and if you could post a picture that is a little further away from it I have pretty good idea's for it.

Replace the glass. Bring door to glass store and they will put it in for you. Also, if there are shelves behind the glass, place antique colored dishes, glasses, cups, pitchers behind for a beautiful look. I have them in my kitchen and had a light placed inside. Looks beautiful. Good Luck!

Cabinets that lose their glass allow greasy kitchen dust on the contents that has to be washed off before each use.

I agree.......you need to replace the glass. When you get it done, if you want something truly unique, try etching the glasses with a pattern to suit you. You can buy etching creme to do the job, or if you wanted to spend a little more money, you could have your pattern sand blasted onto the glasses.

If you can, remove the door and take it to a glass shop. They'll do all the work for you. Then take it home and reinstall the door. Finito!

Is this one piece of glass behind the panes or individual small pieces? If its one piece and you want to change the type of glass, like reed or frosted you can replace the whole piece. I found a place in CA that makes them to your dimensions very reasonably.

thought of it two days ago..easy ;easy...just cut and tape fabric to inside of panel..it will be hard to tell if glass broke in one pane...could gather it ...or not go with color theme...you could low melt glue it also...peel off when tired of it...:)

  • K. K. on Feb 09, 2017

I agree with Suellen Hintz take the entire door to a glazier. Most don't charge that much to replace the broken pane.

  • Cheryl Cheryl on Feb 10, 2017

I agree, it is so easy to just remove the door and take it to a glass store. They will do all the work for you. Frost if you want, but I love my glass cabinets in my kitchen. I put my best dishes there and they look great. I use these every day. I bought nice covered drink glasses and they look nice behind the glass doors.

  • Cheryl Cheryl on Feb 10, 2017

Sorry, I ment to say nice colored drink glasses.
