We have one in our basement! Its so comfortable that in the summer, everyone fights over sleeping on it in the cool basement to escape the summer heat
Check out FlexSteel products. I haven't tried it myself but none of my visitors has complained.
Lazy Boy has sleep sofas with an air mattress attached to the thin regular mattress. I have slept on it and it is comfortable.
I have a futon that I would and could sleep on anywhere...they are GREAT. If your sofa frame is such, that you could use something like this, I would give it a try ! (it would be cheaper too)
Thanks, Magi. I hadn't thought of trying to use a futon mattress In my current sofa. Not sure one would fit (or fold) in the sofa bed mechanism but it's worth some more thought. How thick is the futon you like and do you know the brand (or remember where you got it)?
Look on the This End Up website. They have a sofa bed that is amazing...it is like a tri-fold and when you flip it out into a bed it is on the floor. There are no bars digging into your back and is as comfy as a bed. We had one for 38 years and they are indestructible. The worst thing is getting up if you are elderly. ;o
I have 2 sleeper sofas, my favorite is the jack knife style. lift up the base, the back lays flat and it can sleep 2. the second sleeper sofa is a take all the cushions off ,lift up and out metal frame with the mattress folded into it. it's also a full size, but not so nice to sleep on, but much better with a air matress on top.
Thanks. The lift out metal frame is what I have right now and that bar is uncomfortable! I don't have storage for any sort of topper
the air mattresses i have are meant for camping....rolled up they look like a sleeping bag. they are about 6 inches or so when inflated. deflated they they look like weird sheet. I've got one that i fold up in the couch.
the one that hold a sheet best have a "flocking" or a velvet like surface. check at big box store intex (sp) is one brand. they may or may not come with an inflation pump- you will need one- and they are usually battery powered.
My sister has an electric air mattress on her sofa sleeper and it is very comfortable!
Thank you, I will research those.
Thank you!
We have a pull-out frame type sofa bed (full-size) & the bar was very uncomfortable. I added an egg-crate type foam pad on top of the mattress -- the mattress was a good-quality one, but when it's folded over time, loses some of the bounce. Then, I added 2 (1/2") plywood sections, cut 2' x 5', side by side, lengthwise under the mattress(adjust measurements to fit your mattress size, as plywood comes in 4'x8' sheets & most big box hardware stores will cut for free). That eliminates the pressure from the metal bar. I also covered mine with fabric to keep them from slipping & store the wood sheets under or behind the sofa when they are not in use.
Thanks, Karen.
