how far are you shooting and what caliber are you shooting? We sometimes use small thin garage sale signs with paper plates stapled to them with sticky targets dots on them. Don't use the thick metal signs as they might give you some ricochet. You can also just use corrugated boxes with the target attached to it. Usually though an outdoor range will have something you can attach your paper targets to.

we were looking for something a bit more durable, maybe furring strips? the shooting range is moving to rifle shooting, with hand gun targets the responsibility of the shooter. targets have to be at eye level when standing.

I've been planning on making one out of rigid pipe which you can find in the plumming department at home improvement stores. You can cut the pipe to any lengths you want and just screw onto coordinating t's or l's. This makes it easy to take apart. Planning on adding a couple eye hooks across the top to hang cardboard targets from.

@Michela Shoemaker For Anne H the home stores will cut the pipes or wood for you. When my x made a frame he used the pipe it stood 8' tall x 3' W.
