This could be a sewing room or a crafting space for someone who loves to be creative but the apt or home have just this small space. I would put built in sewing/craft table and storage space could go vertically up the walls.
Put a metal bakers rack or vertical storage rack in that space.
I, too, was thinking shelving, crafting, desk space, entertainment system, or perhaps a mixture of closed/open storage (cabinets/cubbies) on the lower part and open shelving or art above. In which room is it located and/or how is the rest of the room utilized? Is it open on the left side as it appears to be on the right?
It can be used for a small crafting space- add a few shelves for your materials and craft away! Or a reading nook!
Old breakfront (glass on top, cabinets below) tend to be shallow, which would keep it from sticking out too far into the room. Thrift shops and yard sales can offer real buys. They are usually solid wood, always great storage, and you can paint any color you want, whether your wall color to blend in or dramatic.
That sounds like it might work. thanks
What room is it in? That really dictates uses for this space. In kitchen all of the comments would work but if in another area that is public space I would add art work a sculpture after painting the wood. And if it has doors underneath use for holiday storage.
1st I would put ship lap, love it, then you can hang stuff on it. photo's shelves, baskets, depends on where this area is,
You mentioned that it is in your front room but not what you use that room for. If it is a sitting room or living room, you can make a padded bench to fit that space. put a hinged top on it for storing afghans or throws. Since there is an outlet, you can put some type of lighting there and turn it into a reading nook.
Make it a walk-in closet with a barn door over it.
Did anyone but me notice the space has a raised floor? Reading nook is the best use . .Bench could hold afghans etc. but should reach outer edge of raised floor (unless it might be removeable?) Dimension of raised floor not given, could n be a tripping hazard.
Must have been a decorative fireplace location. .could be again . .one of those that are electric and warm the room some but require no chimney. Some are made to be a TV stand above the heater . .
If you have a smallish front room and want to save on space, you could also put in a closeable desk/worktable and paint it a pretty color. I had one when I was little that my dad made. It hung on the wall and the tabletop came down on small chains. It had a magnet at the top. I think they are called wall desks or murphy desks. Add a pretty hanging pendant light or if on a budget, even a tap light!

Depending on the location, I would make it a gallery area, fill it with lots of family framed pictures, a small accent table, center mirror and wall light sconces. Or it could be a nook with books and a seating area for reading just add some floating wall shelves and lots of books and magazines, add a small area rug and knick-knacks and relax with your favorite coffee or wine.
First I would check to see if the flooring goes under the platform.
Maybe a padded bench seat, with storage underneath. Floating shelves above.
Or an entertainment area. TV above and cabinets for equipment below.
Depending on the location, a bar with a wine fridge would be nice.
It would be super fun to add an art gallery with some fun wall hangings! See some of our tips and tricks here: http://zestitup.com/how-to-make-an-art-gallery/
I hope this inspires you! Can't wait to see what you do with it!!
I have read all the great reviews and I think you could use all these ideas!!
