I use a spray called Awesome for a lot of my cleaning, including for laundry. You can find it at the Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar General Stores. It does a fantastic job on all kinds of dirt and grease. Spray it, let it soak for a few minutes, then rinse it well in cool water. Good luck!

I have used Awesome for years. It is by far the best stain remover there is. Best of all it does not destroy the color of item. Use it to remove grease above a stove or stains in a carpet. It is truly awesome.

My crewel work has become orangey-brown on the stretcher bars. It has been hanging for a long time in the bathroom, so I'm sure the stain is not grease. Have no idea low to clean and how to avoid it being too clean in that area.

Remove from stretcher bars, put in ice water with some white vinegar, salt diluted in a small amount of warm water and one drop of dish detergent. Mix around, leave about 10 minutes or until mark is gone, rinse and then dry rolled in a bath towel until damp, do not wring out. Hang up to fully dry, if wrinkled iron the back on low setting and a damp press cloth or low steam. Good luck. I have used this many times and the colors do not run.

Here is my go to stain remover: A scoop of Oxyclean in hot water and stirred till dissolved. Let it cool if you don't want to use hot water. Soak overnight. If there is still some stain, use a soft small tooth brush, dip it in the dry oxyclean, scrub the stain & let it sit for awhile. Rinse, rinse, rinse & let dry. I have gotten old mustard stain out of a white knit shirt using Oxyclean full strength with no fabric damage. You should test the colored area first, but if the colored threads are good, go for it.

If there is a smoker in the home it may be nicotine. I have to wipe all my walls every few months I use hot water with a few drops of dish soap. I do not rinse.

Hey Susan- First, I hope you are not the smoker in your house. Second, anybody that does have that awful addiction (my Pop smoked since he was 16) should be courteous enough to take it outside and spare the people, the pets, and the home itself.

Okay, now, smokers leave TAR and nicotine. It gets EVERYWHERE. It's good that you wipe down your walls, but you really need to go back and rinse the soap residue off. The residue is like a magnet for all of that stinky brown smoke to stick to making your walls get grosser even faster.

Please encourage the smoker to take take it outside. When I rented, the landlord provided buckets filled with sand both outside the main entrance and on each balcony for ashcans to keep the smoke out of the building.

      I hope that helps!🚬
