not experienced painter, is there any way that you don't have to sand and prime cabinets first

What are the cabinets made out of?
Cabinets will need to be washed, then lightly sanded to remove any shine, primed with Zinsser 123 or BIN, then painted. use a foam roller and foam brush to get a smooth finish. If you remove the doors and hardware, mark them where they go, it will make painting easier.
