My Mirror Got a Face Lift

I was tired of looking at this boring old mirror, and since I didn't have the money or the tools to make a frame for it, I wanted to do something different to it. I have plenty of glass gems left over from other projects so I thought I would make a frame out of glass gems.
Boring old builders grade mirror. Gave it a good cleaning before starting.
I wasn't sure how many rows I was going to do until I started gluing them, that's when I decide that 3 rows would be just right. So I started gluing the bottom rows first then worked my way up the sides. This was a little time consuming because I found out that if I glued more than 6 gems at a time they would start sliding down and falling off, since I didn't have any painters tape to hold them in place.
After I did both sides then it was time to do the top. I had to find something that I could stick to the mirror to hold up the gems but wouldn't fall off and wouldn't leave any marks on the mirror. I went searching in my garage for anything that I thought would work, and what I found was a roll of weatherstripping. It was sticky on both sides but I only needed it to stick to the mirror long enough for the glue to dry and the gems to stay in place. It worked like a charm, it didn't mark up the mirror and held all the gems in place. I love how it turned out and the next project will be painting the vanity white, and probably repainting the walls.
Enjoyed the project?

LibraryKAT on Feb 11, 2017It turned out nicely. When you paint the walls, look to your gems for a color, it'll be spectacular when you're all done. Please share the results!
