3 Ways to Use a DIY Scrap Wood Heart All Year Around!

4 Materials
Whenever February 14th approaches, I think hearts.
But being that my style involves lots of rustic wood... hmmm... how could I incorporate wood scraps into the heart of my dreams?
Fitting together random planks, this happened!
But with a fun twist. Once the DIY heart was made, the ideas on how to use it wouldn't stop! And of course... one idea involves one of my habits...
Here is how I made this heart, and 3 all season ways to use it! Which idea is your fav?
Making a reclaimed wood heart is not hard, just a tiny bit fiddly shaping it. But it's nothing you can't handle with a good jigsaw by your side.

1. Dry fit random planks in sequence desired for heart.

Random boards were dry fit together, to get a handle on what I wanted my heart to look like. As you can see, no scrap is really too small! Just place accordingly.
2. Create a heart template from paper, then trace onto wood.

A heart template was created by folding a large sheet of packing paper in half.
3. Clamp wood, then cut each shape as drawn.

This is the most fiddly part. Each piece was cut to the drawn shape. I really like using clamps and my little workmate bench for this one.
4. Stabilize back of heart with wood strips.

Once all the pieces were cut, the pieces were reversed, then braced with cedar strips as shown.

You will find after piecing the heart together, some cuts won't line up perfectly. Simply re-trim with the jigsaw, then lightly sand the edges to smooth things out.
And you have yourself a pretty cool, rustic heart! But now let's put it to work.

IDEA 1: This idea showcases hanging twine to mount pictures of those you love, complete with a junk LOVE insignia. How fun!
IDEA 2: And THIS idea involves my coffee habit. :)

Why yes, I do love coffee. Thanks for the reminder to drink more of it, heart!
