I use Waverly wax in a bottle (sold in the craft dept at Walmart). You can brush it on and I love it much better than the hard solid wax. If you want to use the solid, soften it up and it will go on easier. I also use an electric handheld buffer to make the wax smooth after it dries.

Are you sure the paint is totally dry?

Yes I waited several days before waxing. I left the wax on over night like one post suggested. Should I have just rubbed it in than buffed it? This was my first time chalk painting.

I've since ditched and I use a wipe on poly. Works so so smoothly. The paint stores are telling you that their wipe on poly is the best and works easier because they are trying to make money regular works just fine hope it helps.

I agree, the buffer will help smooth the surface, good luck!!!!

Never lend out your tools! I let a friend borrow it. I ended up sanded it and repainting most of it again. Lesson learned.

Chalk paint needs to be completely dry before applying wax
