You can run white vinegar through a cycle or orange juice that should be enough to break down what is in there.
Buy enzyme cleaner at a hardware store. I use it once a month, three nights in a row to keep the drain pipes cleaned out. Old house plumbing tends to get a buildup in the pipes. I do it in all drains just as it says on the package. Plumbers will also have enzyme products if your hardware store does not.
Be careful about using Vinegar. It can harden the seals on your dishwasher and make it leak.
Vinegar won't hurt it! *****

Hi - yes it could be food that will break down with vinegar but if it is a solid item you have to go in and clear out the debris - I use vinegar in every use - maybe 1/3 cup have had no trouble with seals hardening - partner is appliance repair tech for over 40 years and said as long as you do not use too much vinegar it should not hurt the seals -
The chlorine in commonly used DW products is far more caustic than vinegar, just measure don't dump from the bottle. I only use 1/4 c but then everyone's water is different.
I guess they want people to have to pay to replace the seals. Check the info out on line.
I had the same problem. I paid $80 for the repairman to come and checked it. I watched him. He said my dishwasher was the cleaning he had ever seen. My problem was I didnt have enough water pressure from my city water to make my washer work!!!
Vinegar has worked for me too, good luck!
