WHAT TO DO? While browsing on KIJIJI I came across a sewing machine and bench for sale $20.00, and it as already been stipped. I wanted the bench to make a dog feeding station, but now I have a sewing machine and the desk. I don't want to make a bar with it so I need the help of my Hometalk friends for ideas! Thank you!

I had a smaller version with a single lid, removed the sewing machine, made the hole bigger and fit a plexi glass with a fluorescent light underneath for an artists tracing box. When the lid was closed you would never know what it was and it was not unsightly. Worked beautiful too.

Keep up your creativity. It's a great talent not everyone has.

Either sell it or remove the machine - make a new top with the folding tops and you have desk.

Agree, Cindy. That was my other thought. A great computer desk for sure. The furniture on most sewing machine cabinets are of good quality wood as a rule. I wouldn't get rid of it.

I'd make it into a rolling kitchen island.

It doesn't have to be a bar to be a server, open it up for more space when you have company. Or use it when you need more space for crafting.

I thought you wanted to make it into a Dog Eating area? Why have dogs up so high? Little dogs jump off and break bones, big dogs eat at floor height, helps to slow the " bolting" of their food. Or did I read it incorrectly? Some very good ideas on here. 🤓

The bench is for the dog feeder. The sewing machine will go to good will. The desk I will use for a diy table and storage. I liked the idea of the first person that answered me, scroll up to see

Monique, it's called a light box, but for the life of me I couldn't think of it when I wrote. If you're into art, it is very handy. You can also look at slides I imagine.

The sewing desk has a portion that lifts up to tilt the machine in or out of the desk, if you could redesign that section and unattach the facing faux drawer and hinge it so it folded out toward you, it would make a great docking station for your laptop to sit in and use it as a computer desk. Since there is a space underneath that is open you could run power cords up through it to dock your phones, Ipads and all the other technology that's out there now!

A vanity. No more bending over the sink to put on your makeup or do your hair. Lots of room for toiletries, etc. I've used a treadle machine for a vanity for years.

I would use it as a sewing machine. I love the older machines and the tables they had then. I rescued a portable sewing machine from going to the thrift store. It was in a little suitcase type box. The machine is a Singer and the bed folds up so it fits in the box. It is a straight sewer as it come from the late 40's early 50's . It was the first portable machine made. I oiled it and adjusted it and it works great. It is made of metal and is relatively light weight. It also has some attachments and a place for extra thread and needles in the box. OH, yes it is electric. I would not trade it for anything.

If you're making your bench into a dog feeding spot, why not put this on wheel, take the two side flaps and put them under the machine as a shelf (or leave there and just create a shelf) that is super close to the floor so you can use it to store the dog food bag. The drawers can be used for leashes, collars, meds, etc. And the entire unit can be turned around when company is over so it isn't in the open. You could then use the other side as a small storage table and maybe use the panel for something decorative or hang baskets or small drawstring bags from it for storage or bringing things from one floor to the other. If your dogs are the small & long haired type that need grooming, you could very easily turn it into a small grooming station. I have also often seen people turn small furniture pieces like that upside down (including turning the drawers upside down so they can still be used) and creating a small dog bed area on top of the raised middle drawer area. At that point you could decide whether to put a top on our just keep it off. The drawers could still be used for their supplies.

I'd refinish it and keep using it for a sewing table.

I'm going to be 72 this year and I no longer sew, I'm in to DIY'ing big time to keep busy, I live alone, I don't intertain. I love to refisish all sort of struff, But what give me the most gratification is workin with live edge wood. I purchased this sewing machine just for the bench to make a dog feeding station. With the desk I will make a work station, for my projects.
