There’s nothing quite like having a fireplace in the master bedroom. But the looks of the previous fireplace surround left me feeling far from warm and cozy. The fireplace surround needed an overhaul and it needed to be done on a budget. We accomplished that using plywood, crown molding, quartz ledge stone and recessed lighting ... all for $264. The previous owners did a great job adding a surround to the gas fireplace in the 1980's but it still felt like a brown wooden box sitting in the room.

We built the framework of the fireplace with 2X3's and added quartz ledge stone

Did you also enlarge the sizes of the doors? I notice that the amount of space between the corners and the doors is dramatically reduced once they are done. Whatever you did , it looks amazing!

Did you strip the floor & stain it lighter? It is so much lighter in the second picture. Also, the doors are beautiful. But, what is with the signs?
