Help for bamboo headboard - please!

by Melinda
I have a bedroom set made of bamboo that is great. Only almost immediately the head board stain color started to wear off in two places ( where pillows or heads rub against it). This is two rectangular areas of the headboard, rest of it is fine. I really don't want to get into sanding and restaining (not very handy!) any ideas on how I might be able to cover up these areas?

Try to get a stain as close to the color as possible. Stain the scratches. You can also use a stain marker, Minwax makes them. Then seal the panels with a water based polyurethane to protect the finish.

We've tried to do things like you suggest but it doesn't match and wears off again. We're trying to come up with an idea to completely cover this area with some kind of material, tile, stick-on wallaper, etc. It needs to be able to take the rubbing. Thanks for answering us though!

How about upholstering some thin wood panels that would fit in the square area and either double stick tape, tack, staple, or hot glue them into the square area. You would be able to remove them at any time to change out the fabric.

Measure the size square you need - your local Home Depot or lumber store can cut to size (plywood or MDF would be cheapest). Buy some foam at Michael's or some other craft store - you can cut this yourself very easily with a serrated knife. Cut to size to the wood. Select your fabric - cut the fabric several inches longer on all sides than the wood and foam. Lay your fabric, pattern side down, then your foam, then the wood. Staple the fabric to the back of the wood. You can affix it to your headboard with heavy duty velcro.

What about getting thin strips of wood make them whatever color or stain you like and glue them on.

There is stick on tiles that look like boards, they are easy to cut. Either cut them all the same or stager them (I have used them for many projects).

You can also use contact paper, wallpaper, or decoupage something there.

Painting would be the easiest thing but what about upholstery tacks. Clean, paint, design then tack your design out. You could add material then tack around that too.

KatAych sure has a great idea. There are hundreds of websites that show you how to upholster anything and different ways to do it. Good luck to you!

ended up using stick and peel wallpaper that had a leather like texture. A little difficult to cut and place, but turned out great! Thanks for all the suggestions !
