You may mean 'wood's edge' plants. This is a general garden reference to usually shade plants you grow on the perimeter as the yard turns to woodlands.
It's where you leave the uncut wood edge. On a project like a counter top made of wood you leave the outer edge that you lean up against rough like when you just take the bark off the log and then cut it into a plank. The "live" edge can be buffed or sanded to remove any rough edges that will catch on fabric, etc.
