Do u have a pic?
I have a long (6') wooden shelf with nice brackets above mine. I added shelves on the sides to give it the look of a wall unit.
You could do a wall full of pictures, nicely arranged and spaced.

Depends on look you are going for. Industrial; go with 2" thick wood slabs, stained dark with wrought iron brackets in stainless steel or black below and on each end on top. Place two shelves on each side of tv equal height with gap in between them what you determine to be for item you want to hang there (grand central clock, etc). Remember to hang on studs which will be 16" apart. Then place identical shelf above this empty space. You can put collection of jars (old apothecary are cool) or baskets you collect, anything really, that ties the room together. They decorate great for holidays. If you have option, canned lights in ceiling shining on top shelf at least or all if you desire. This can be switched up with light wood shelves and natural polyurethaned support brackets for a more woodsy feel. With tall jars full of shells or other natural collections (pine cones) etc. then a piece of driftwood in the middle. you get the idea.
