If it's a ceiling fan you're in need of cleaning, this is a pretty simple method I like to use. It definitely prevents the dust from getting everywhere.

    Good luck!

A regular fan usually comes apart by unscrewing each piece. Just a hint, turn the knobs to the right (not left) to unscrew. I then wash each piece in soapy water and dry and reassemble. Using 3 in 1 oil on the metal pieces to keep everything moving quietly.

UNPLUG the fan. Remove the outer blade guards. Use either Lysol Wipes or Lysol spray. Greased Lightning works well but is more costly. Cover the motor housing and wipe the blades if you use the spray. You can soak or spray the guards and use a soft scrub brush or soak it and hose them off. Don't spray the blades with a hose. I you have a can of duster you can spray the housing.

I have a great idea to keep your fans ceiling fans clean I put knee high stockings over them, great if you have tan, black or grey/silver fans even white it just gives it a different colour, then when they get dirty I just take the stockings off and hand wash them, after they dry just thread them back on.

I put my medium size fan and cleaned it with soap and water. Try not to get water down into the mechanisms if possible. Let it dry WELL for several days in a warm dry place. It was clean and it worked fine.
