Cheap and Easy Trick for Cleaning a Smooth Stovetop
Soak in a solution of vinegar and baking soda. Gently clean with old towels.
I don't know about the paint. I think the paint's under the glass top. I spray vinegar and use a razor blade. You can also use wadded tin foil.
I always put mine in the kitchen sink with a cup of sudsing ammonia and enough boiling water to cover, then let sit and soak for a bit before taking a plastic scrubber to them. I have good results using this method and no paint scratched off! Be sure you have good ventilation while using the ammonia.
I use Barkeeper's Soft Soap spray. Just spray the elements (in the sink), let the product do its stuff for a few minutes, use a soft sponge to wipe off while rinsing in hot water. Repeat if needed. If all else fails, just spray oven cleaner on the units (in a box outside if the fumes are too strong) let stand for about 5 - 10 minutes, rinse in hot water, wipe with a soft sponge or cloth. Best of luck, there are a lot of good suggestions coming your way.
