Do you mean an old wood box type cover, plastic or fabric? Whatever it is, a cover in need is a cover indeed. You will find an ugly appliance or something to hide under it. :)
If you're talking about an old wooden sewing machine cover, you can add some legs to it and make it into a storage ottoman. Or a side table. It will look nice and vintage!
If fabric, use it as a basket liner.
