How do I get rid of a dog urine smell in my carpet?

For accidents I usually soak up as much as I can with a paper towel. Then completely saturate the area with vinegar. Let it sit for a bit and then soak that up with paper towels. Then I go over it with my carpet cleaner. If the smell is still there either you missed some of it or it has soaked through the carpet and through the pad. That is much harder to get out. Good luck! Gotta love vinegar ;)

Get rid of the carpet as the urine will soak down to the floor beneith it and then you will have take the sub floors up also. I keep my dogs in my bedroom with the door closed and they won,t pee in there.

listerine works on wood floors. might work on carpet. put some in sprayer and let it sit. then dap it up with wet paper towel. Not sure if it will stain so try and get a clear one

1 soak up as much as I can with some old bath towels. Then I use Fab also mixed with bleach to clean , afterwards I use another old bath towel to soak up excess water. Then I sprinkle baking soda over the are while it's drying. Within 30-45 mins you will see the urine come up in the baking soda from the padding (the baking soda will be yellow). Allow it ti semi dry and vacuum up the baking soda. There shouldn't be any smell, but if so reapply the baking soda for and hour or so. The best technique for urine stain/smells on carpet I've found ...you won't be disappointed.

If you can save up your pennies, get a Bissell Spot Bot. Suck up as much urine as you can then set the spot bot to work. Nature's Miracle is good to use in the machine.

Other than that, put some baking soda in a shaker jar (Dollar Tree) and heavily shake over the spot, allow to set then vacuum. Some people say salt will do the same thing and draw the urine to the surface, You can use essential oils to give fragrance to the baking soda. I do this for general carpet vacuuming powder.

I agree with Janet, Natures Miracle really works. It removes the odor that humans can smell and odors that only the dog can smell. You blot up what you can and then apply the product liberally (I got the spray type -much easier to use). Then you let dry. Not only will the odor be gone but any stains as well, even old ones. I use Urine Off which I purchase at a carpet store. Even works for human dribbles.

I have two small dogs and an off-white carpet in my bedroom. I keep a large plastic spray bottle with a good shot of hydrogen peroxide, about a heaping teaspoon of baking soda and filled the rest of the way with water. Works wonders on the smell and the stain and no chemicals you can't pronounce. Also works on many clothing stains, sticky hairspray on tile floors, soap scum on glass (and it's very cheap)! No need to over saturate and depending on the size age of the stain, spraying it on a rag and rubbing out the spot has been effective for me. Good luck!

When wet drop some baking soda it will clean up the dogs pee/pee and vacuum afterwards cheap but works on almost everything and mirrors once a moth baby oil and it shines all metal products and even polish shoes I use it always on my shoes look brand new but they are 10 years old and people will ask you how did you get shoes so bright a spit shine like in the army but later on tell them baby oil stainless sink look brand new .I work as a custodian in WA. There are several methods of carpet cleaning like hot water extraction aka steam cleaning, dry cleaning etc. But one should hire professional cleaning service to do it as feel the end result will be much better than we do it our own.

Hi there, so sorry to hear that. It's a common problem. Mix ¼ cup of baking soda with 1 cup water, 1/3 cup distilled white vinegar, and about 1/4 cup of mild dish soap. Put the solution in a spray bottle a mix thoroughly before spraying it on the stain. Rub it in lightly with a clean cloth and let it stand for about 20 minutes. Rinse the solution away with a damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly. Be sure to test the mixture first on a spot to make sure it won’t discolor or damage your carpet.
