How to remove and repair flood and mold damaged wood legs on furniture

Question

I have a quilt rack that looks like the bottoms of the legs have been exposed to water damage and there may possibly be dried mold on them. Would like to know how to clean and restore them, without damaging them more.

I would put down some newspaper on top of plastic in an open area (porch or yard if weather permits) and then put on a mask before spraying the legs thoroughly with bleach. You can even do this several times to kill mode spores. If you wish, you can scrub the legs with a brush or some steel wool while damp with bleach. Use rags you can discard. Just to be safe, spray and wipe down the entire frame!

I found a great product that eliminates the white faded out finish and brings it back to original without color. It goes into the finish and makes it clear so you see the color of whatever wood is under the white area. It was invented for antiques but is used for any wood that looks bad even kitchen cabinets.
