As a teen, I used Reader's Digest issues, folded them all around, stood vertically, sprayed in white or pastels, used a styrofoam ball for the head (painted and detailed face, painted hair) added a gold pipe cleaner for a halo, cut large white wings with gold glitter along the edge, cardstock or construction paper sleeves.
Wings and sleeves should have tabs to glue between pages. A golf tee stuck in the bottom of the head will fit into neck hole.
I haven't tried any variations yet, but I think folding pages from the bottom as well as the top, spraying with white or red, and changes in details, would make good bases for snowman or Santa.
I had forgotten about this project. Now my good friend who collects snow may get a snowman or a pair for Christmas/
