How to rejuvenate last years ferns that have made it through the winter? I tried feeding with Miracle Grow & I can't get them back to that green healthy spring they had when I bought them. Wonder what the growers use ?

You need to re-pot them with fresh soil. Gently pull the roots down and plant in the next size pot. After they have perked up thats when you feed them. Make sure they do not dry out ,but only water when dry to the touch.

You are right. These are 'hot house' grown plants and rarely last more than a season.

Make sure their soil is well drained and high in organic matter! The fertilizer you use should be a 14-14-14 but use it at half strength so that you're not burning your fern. Best of luck!

I did nothing to mine other than cut them back to the pot and put them outside once frost was past and they came back on their own.

Thanx M.Z. - these (3) ferns hang on our front porch, what do you think is the longest length that I could leave remaining ?

We mix a water and epsom salt solution in a galvanized tub and put the ferns in and hold them down until they stop bubbling. Do this about once a week.
