We were tired of our nasty deck and store bought coffee table so we cleaned it up and I made a new one from cedar with a concrete top! This was my first time working with concrete and I learned a ton. Watch the video below for full details and my lessons learned when working with concrete.

This was what the deck looked like before...ugh. It was a hodge podge of chairs and an old coffee table. It was really just a mess.
I used simple joinery for the base for a quick and easy build. The wood is cedar 2x4's and the pocket holes did a perfect job of holding everything together.
The base for the coffee table was made out of cedar 2x4's which are more than strong enough to hold up the concrete top.
I mixed the concrete for the top by hand. If you're going to do this then watch the video for some of my tips. I messed up my first batch because I didn't know what I was doing.
I used reinforcing metal grid to strengthen the top so it won't crack.
The table turned out great and now the deck looks amazing! Plans are available for this build via the blog link below.

Does the top just sit on the 2 x 4 or does it have a groove to sit in.
