Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover

I have been wanting to redo our main bathroom for a long time. This is the bathroom that our kids use as well as guests. Before it was so dark and dreary. I was trying to use the shower curtain that I already had. I also found a full gallon of extra white paint in semi-gloss that the previous owners had used on the trim and doors. I figured I could use that and save a lot of money!

This is how the bathroom looked when we moved in. The paint looks grey but is more greige in person. It reminds me of the color of cement. Yuck.

After taking the stuff off the walls (I pulled off that rusted towel bar too eventually) I started taping. I wanted a similar affect to beadboard so I went high. I taped it at 62".

I was thinking about painting blue on the top part of the wall. I even picked out the color swatch. But when I got done painting the white, I liked the look of the old color plus the new white so I left it, and love it so much more!

I also took this shelf that I had got at a yardsale for $2 and stained it with General Finishes Gel Stain in Antique Walnut. I was wanting some warm wood accents and this fit the bill perfectly.

The painting and everything only took about 3 hours.

I thought the shelf turned out really beautifully! If you have not used General Finishes Gel Stain, I highly recommend trying it out! I used a wipe on method with an old rag. This is the color after just one coat.

I found these old looking bath salts at the Dollar Tree! It's amazing what you can find there sometimes! You can see the shower curtain I had been using before and it worked out better than I could have imagined to keep it and work with it.

I hung the shelf at the same place where the two paints meet. It created a really seamless look!

I brightened the color a bit so the paint would stand out. It wasn't showing up very well in the pictures! It's a very subtle paint in person. I love how it gives it just enough interest. It's not plain stark white, the top color adds a bit of warmth.

This whole project cost under $20. I used paint I had on hand, all decorating stuff I had on hand, I just needed more paint rollers and a paint brush and frog tape.

Thanks for looking! I had so much fun with this project and love how it turned out. It's amazing what you can do with stuff you have around the house sometimes!
