I am not a fan of putting hardwoods in wet areas, and the kitchen qualifies as that. If you have a leak, you are going to have to tear out some floors. Keep in mind also the traffic that you have in the kitchen. Laminate floors cannot be refinished if they get scratched or gouged.

You can use Laminate flooring in your kitchen. Laminate flooring is very durable and we install them in kitchens all the time. The great thing about a prefinished floor or laminate is if you do damage a plank you can cut it out and just put in an new one.

NO. Laminate floor only looks good when you install it. And yes, you can even seal the joints against damage of spills. But- having used laminate floor in a kitchen for some time you will have a floor that has dings from dropped pots and pans all over the place. I have installed laminate floors since 1986 and know a little about the good and the bad of it.

I'm in Holden's camp...I to have been installing and re-finishing floors for a number of years....I did my first Sand and Re-finish in 1983....I have NEVER seen a laminate product over 2-3 years old that I would enjoy having in my home....dirty ugly seams...scratches etc. Laminates often have the "print" of 3-4 boards in one plank...then the ugly dirty seam then 3-4 more ...you also then have the ugly seams at the ends of each "plank".....a pre-finished solid hardwood floor would look a ...»
    million times better.

Do yourself a favor and put tile in your kitchen....a nice porcelain or natural granite.

If you are using laminate, I would consider the Quick Step product. Much better quality than the 'bargain' laminates you find all over town!
