I like to attack my tough cleaning situations with either baking soda or vinegar. You'll be amazed by how versatile it is!
Vinegar is environmentally friendly and biologically useful which I just experienced this when the guy's toilet almost above me ( I live in an apartment building) overflowed the other week.
