I'm working on an old lazy susan project right now. The original was put into custom cabinets when the kitchen was remodeled back in the 70's. My shelves were adjustable but one day I lost my grip on the bottom one when I tried to move it and it's rested crooked on it's flange underneath ever since. I'm just trying to clean it up and fix some of the edging where it's cracked off. In my dreams, I wish they would make one where the shelf would fold up so you could clean underneath it. (That would be after the dream of figuring out how to make a rocking huge, heavy circle even enough to pull it up in huge deep cabinet LOL) Anyway, what I wanted to write about is to be aware that it can be very difficult to clean under a lazy susan. For my installation, it's very difficult to get to the back corner if something falls off. (When I had 3 young kids at home - everything fell off)

While working on this project, I decided to empty the whole thing and paint the shelves - there went my simple little project! I had to pretty much crawl into the cabinet to get the items that had come off the shelf way in the back. (At 71 I don't crawl in cabinets often) I also found (much to my disgust) that a bottle of maple syrup had fallen and somehow gotten wedged in there so that when the shelf turned it wobbled right over it. Guess what? That maple syrup LEAKED. OH MY what a mess. At first I couldn't even get it out, then once I did, there was a MESS. (not to mention how many ants it probably attracted. I'm glad my food was all in Tupperware.) I managed with hot water, soap, a scraper, and time to get most of it up. But I can't get 100% beneath it. I have a dear son-in-law who is one of the smartest men I know and who also has fabulous problem solving skills. I raised the HELP flag! My point in the very long story is to be careful if you use a lazy susan. If something falls off do what ever you have to do to get it up right away. If you have young kids, check daily. Move everything around to make sure they didn't let something fall.

Hope you can figure out how to install a lazy susan without taking off the countertop. Just be aware that there is at least one horror story out here. :)

With lazy susans you lose the space in the corner. I would like to figure out how to use uniform bins that you can slide... But for now, i will settle for raising the little wall around the perimeter of those shelves so im not losing stuff behind it...

If you are building your own lazy susan put an edge on it to keep things from falling off.
