Clean, restain,once dry get a colorful outdoor area rug,add pots with flowers and and get a garden statue.
If it is really damaged, you might want to flip the boards.
I agree with Hillela and Janet! Do not put carpeting on it. It will hold moisture and your deck will eventually rot away.
You could provide everyone with a picture(s) of your potential project.

Our deck was getting pretty rough looking and feeling. My nephew suggested Deck Restore and it was awesome!! You just paint it on and it will fill in any cracks, rough spots, etc. Well worth the time and effort!!
