Spring Planter Arrangement

I found this interesting container at the thrift store and made it into a spring planter arrangement.
The container didn't have a drainage hole, so I used 1" of aquarium gravel in the bottom for drainage. I purchased spring bulbs that were either ready to bloom or had been refrigerated so they would bloom quickly after planting (available at garden centers).
I added Miracle Grow soil on top of the gravel, then the bulbs. Be careful when removing bulbs from their containers so the roots don't get damaged. Pull them apart if necessary and plant them very close together. Cover tops of bulbs with soil.
To keep the container from drying out, I added a layer of reindeer moss over the soil. It's also very colorful. The faux butterfly (craft store) and rabbit statues (you could use fairy garden statues) came next. Water your container about once a week or as needed.
Remove bulbs that have finished blooming and plant them outdoors. You can then add fairy garden plants, or small houseplants to fill out the container. More tips are on the blog.
